  • Carl Jackson

Carl Jackson, a revered figure in the world of golf, has made an indelible mark through his longstanding career as a caddie at the Augusta National Golf Club. Renowned for his record-breaking tenure, Jackson has participated in every Masters Tournament since 1961, with the exception of one, leading to a remarkable total of 54 appearances - the most by any caddie in the history of the tournament. His collaboration with golfer Ben Crenshaw is particularly notable, having caddied for him 39 times, including during Crenshaw's two Masters victories.

Jackson's journey in the golfing world began in 1958 at Augusta National, making his Masters debut at just 14 years old, caddying for Billy Burke. Over the years, he has caddied for several prominent players, including Bruce Devlin and Gary Player, showcasing his exceptional skills and contributing to their successes. Despite Augusta National's 1983 policy change allowing players to choose their caddies, Crenshaw remained loyal to Jackson, a testament to their strong bond and Jackson's expertise.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jackson's life story is equally compelling. He left school at 13 to support his family, facing significant challenges from an early age. In 1988, he broke barriers as the first official black guest at Augusta National, reflecting his respected status within the golf community. His battle with colon cancer in 2000 temporarily sidelined him from the Masters, yet his resilience saw him return the following year to continue caddying for Crenshaw.

Jackson's commitment to giving back is evident through the Carl's Kids Foundation, aimed at introducing golf to inner-city children in Little Rock, Arkansas. His legacy extends beyond the greens of Augusta, embodying the spirit of perseverance, excellence, and community outreach. Carl Jackson's story is not just about golf; it's about overcoming adversity, breaking barriers, and inspiring the next generation, making him a true icon of the sport.
