INSTALLATION

A. INSTALLATION: The physical installation of a VORTERRA Water (VW) Unit (with flanges) is similar to installing a Section of pipe in a water line.

  1. Decide the exact location for the installation of the VW Unit, which usually is:

    1. Immediately after the water pump, if the VW unit is to treat the water of the entire irrigation system; or

    2. After the water cut-off value for a specific section of the irrigation system, if the VW unit is to serve only that area

  2. At the selected location (with the water flow turned off), cut out a section of pipe equal to the length of the VW unit, also taking into account the dimensions of the flanges needed to connect with the flanges of the VW unit.

  3. Install flanges on the pipe ends that match the dimensions of the flanges of the VW unit (with the necessary bolts available).

  4. Slip the VW unit (with flanges) into place where the section of pipe was cut and removed, then bolt the pipe-end flanges together with the VW Unit flanges, using a sealant to ensure a water-tight seal of the two ends of the VW unit.

B. PRE-SERVICE FLUSH (of Central Pivot, large sprinkler or jet systems like RM) Immediately after installation of the VW unit and before irrigation, it is MANDATORY TO FLUSH THE SYSTEM with the water treated by the VW Unit because it will release accumulated minerals in the pipes from years of use. PLEASE CONTINUE FLUSHING UNTIL THE GRAY WATER FINALLY BECOMES CLEAR.

C. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  1. VW units are “bi-directional,” meaning that they work equally well with water flow in either direction. A horizontal installation is preferred. Steel pipe should always interface with steel-faced flanges or rings, not directly with a PVC flange.

  2. Water treated is not to be stored for future use but is best applied immediately.
